Chairman's Report

During 2013 and start of 2014 there has been quite a few changes, the biggest being the change of home waters, to Stanton Lake.

We are in the process of siting 2 containers and getting everything set up and sorted for the new season. Stanton is a big jump forward for the club, we have 18 acres of lake to use, better parking, use of the toilets and changing facilities (which will be improving in the near future with a toilet/shower block for the campsite that we will be able to use), and of course we have the bar, restaurant and the meeting room, and hopefully this will help the club grow in the future.

The new committee structure is working really well, and the new website and calendar is a big asset to us as a communication tool and also for new members to find us and see what we get up to, I’d actually go as far as to say the best canoe club website I have seen.

We recently achieved Sport England ‘Clubmark’ accreditation; this is a great achievement and shows that HCC are doing everything correctly and to a high standard. This award should help us grow as a club and hopefully help us obtain funding in the future.

These are a few other things that have been going on during the year:

Chris Moore has written an Ashby Canal Canoe Trail for Canoe England on behalf of HCC which is on their website and ours.

We obtained a grant for £1200 for kids equipment form the canoe foundation, with this money we brought 3 dagger Dynamos and paddles.

A lot of members have achieved various qualifications during the year, including FSRT, BCU level 2 first aid and 1,2 and 3 star awards so a big well done to them. There have been some UKCC coaching qualifications going on as well, Richard passed his level 1, Dan and Dale their level 2 and Penny her level 3 which are all great achievements.

Lastly I would like to thank the coaches, trip leaders and committee for all the help and time you have put in over the year, without you guys the club would not be able to run. A big thank you to Mick and Helen for having us at Stanton Lake and of course all the members who without your support would not be a club at all.

See you on the water - Dave Clarke

RIP Gareth Lockyer

It was with a heavy heart that we we heard about Gareth Lockyer's tragic death at Crickhowell recently.

Gareth was an active member of Leamington Canoe Club who we have very close links with, and he was an experienced and well-loved paddler.

Our thoughts are with his friends and family and his tragic death serves to remind us all that safety on the river is not to be taken lightly. Please ensure you take every precaution when out on the water and stay safe every time you paddle.
