Chairman's Statement.

Welcome to the July Newsletter

What a busy month it has been. We have had a River Wye camping weekend, Matlock introduction to white water, 3 star training on the lower Tryweryn and HPP, 2 star open canoe trip on the Soar and an FSRT course, along with the HCC/Stanton lakes open day.

The lake sessions are going really well with lots of coaching going on and some social paddling. The Thursday after the open day we hit a record number of 56 on the water, which was great to see, but as you can image it wasn't easy, but thanks to the coaches and helpers we coped.

We have plenty of trips planned and some more coaching courses starting soon, so keep your eye on the calendar and facebook page, or just ask if you need any help or info.

Congratulations to Dan and Lisa Bishop who recently had an addition to the family, and I'm sure we will soon see Isla in a little life jacket.

Congratulations also to all those members that passed their 1 Star or 2 Star awards in the last few weeks. Its great to see so many of you making great progress.

See you on the water Dave Clarke.

HCC in Print!!!

If you're a BCU member you'll have seen the profile of Hinckley Canoe Club in the June issue of Canoe Focus.

HCC achieving 'Clubmark' is a big deal and the article goes some way to providing recognition for all those members who worked so hard to help us gain Clubmark status. There seems to have been a bit of a mix up at the magazine with the photograph, but well done to all those involved.

Also our own Ian Bailey also had an article published in the Paddler magazine about his time rafting and paddling in Iceland. You can read Ian's article (starting on page 98) by clicking the link here.

Overdue Membership Reminder.

For those of you that have forgotten to pay your membership fee for this year, can you please let Lesley (or a member of the committee) have both your membership form and money as soon as possible please.

Safety Courses - Places Available.

We have spaces available on 2 upcoming safety courses.

FSRT - 2nd August - Hinckley
For all you newbies, or those looking to start to coach, the FSRT (Foundation Safety and Rescue Training) is an essential course. Just one day long, very cheap and you really will feel more confident on the water once you've been on it. Speak to any member of the committee for details, at £30 its a real bargain too.

White Water Safety Day - 20th September - River Dee Llangollen.
A great opportunity to ensure you stay safer in White Water. The course is just £20 and is suitable for everyone. You will be learning or practicing good techniques for safe swimming and rescue techniques in moving water (not boat based) great day, learn a lot and have fun. Please book through Dave Clarke.

Open Water Swimming Donation to HCC.

There was a charity swimming race at dawn on the Summer Solstice at Stanton Lakes. It was an early start for everyone involved, as the race kicked off just as the sun rose, but the weather was glorious.

The race was in aid of Rainbows Hospice and also our Canoe Club (for all the help we provide with safety cover). It raised £150 for our club, so a big thank you to all the participants and for Alan Rapley for organising it.

Upcoming Club Trips.

There are plenty of Club Trips in the calendar. One of the big events is the River Dee weekend at Llangollen on the August Bank Holiday. For details click here.
