Chairman's Statement.

Welcome to the June newsletter.

Hi all. The warm summer paddling season has finally arrived and everyone has dug out the paddling shorts. The first one star course has now finished, and everyone on it has passed, so well done to you guys, A big well done (and well deserved) to Rob Harrison, Neil Smith and Elliot Clarke for passing there 3 star w/w kayak.

As always there have been plenty of trips going on including the Annual Doggy paddle on the river Leam and Avon, Matlock and upper and lower Tryweryn trips.

We have lots of 3 star canoe and W/W kayak training trips planned, so plenty of opportunity for and up and coming 3 star paddlers.

See you on the water. Dave Clarke.

HCC/Stanton lakes open day

As you all know the open day is on Saturday 4th July. This event is aimed to promote paddlesport in the local area, HCC and Stanton lakes. For this event to be a success we need all the help we can get, on and off the water from club members. Please let me know if you are able to help out.

4 Star leader W/W

Is anyone interested in doing there 4 star W/W? This is the next step up from 3 star, it is a leadership and personals skills award and is aimed at paddlers to be able to lead in a moderate water environment. How it works is you go on a 2 day training course, then have a 2 day assessment at a later date after you have logged some leadership hours and river trips. If I can get enough paddlers interested I can organise a course for you, later on this year.
Previously I have found this the best and easiest way to do it, financially, and also to share the experience/learning curve as a group.
If anyone is interested please let me know but it will be first come first served if I get to many names. Please look on BCU website for pre requisites and at the syllabus.
