Chairman's Report

Welcome to the March newsletter

We have had quite a few new members since the AGM and I would like to welcome all of you to the club, it's great to see the club membership growing. There has been a lot of activity at Stanton with the containers now sited and racked out ready for the kit and boats to go back. A big thank you to all the members who have helped out at the working parties. I'd like to welcome Martin Walker back onto the committee, he has been co-opted on as the Social rep.

The pool sessions have been going really well with most sessions sold out and everyone progressing in the skills they are learning or brushing up on. The members that joined the Club network guys had a great sociable paddle at Rudyard Lake. The Dee trip was a great day with the sun shining, the river was at a great level for us and a big well done to the less experienced paddlers who joined us, they did really well and hopefully learned a lot. The trip reports and photos for both are on the website to look at.

The calendar is very full with something for everyone including a couple of camping weekends, white water, intermediate and touring trips, an ice skating evening, Level 1 coaching course and of course the HCC/Stanton open day will be here before we know it.

We start at Stanton lake on Thursday 17th April 6.30 till dusk. There will be coaching (maybe not the first week) for paddle power and star awards, or social paddling for more experienced paddlers. We have a nice big lake and even a bar for a drink and chat afterwards.

See you on the water Dave.

And the winner is...!

This year's AGM was a great success.

As well as official club business, we presented our annual awards - second only to the BAFTAs.

Some awards were more serious than others, but all were well deserved.

For those of you that missed it, here's a link to a few pictures and a list of those all-important award winners...

Gain some experience doing something different.

Some of you may not know but we share our new Home Waters at Stanton Lakes with an Open Water Swimming Group, run by ex-Olympian Alan Rapley. The swimming group meets every Wednesday evening and we're looking for volunteers to help out providing safety cover on swim nights. You won't need to perform rescues, just act as eyes and ears on the water and signal the rescue boat if anyone gets into trouble. Its suitable for most paddlers, so if you fancy gaining some valuable experience, contact Stuart Ritchie on 07966 318 305 or email him here for full details.
