Chairman's Statement

Welcome to the November Newsletter.

There has been two trips this month, on the Trent and Soar, both trips were well attended, including  a few new faces which is always good. For the newer members who will be paddling over the colder months, there is a good article on the members area of the website about  winter paddling kit, it is well worth a look, all members should be able to log on now. If you’re having problems please tell us. The pool sessions have been fully booked and we are planning on doing another block starting February next year.

We have had some great news for the club, we have now achieved Sport England  “Clubmark” accreditation. This shows that HCC are doing everything correctly and too a good standard this will help us in the future to build the club. I would like to thank Hayley Clarke for all the time and work she has put in to help us achieve this.

Christmas will be here before we know it, there are still a few places left on our annual Christmas weekend away to Crickhowell, if anyone wants to make a late booking?  Don’t forget the local  paddle on 22nd December (if only for the coffee and cake).

It seems a long way off but the AGM is on 7th February at Stanton Lakes which is our new home waters. A committee nomination form can be downloaded here. This is your club and it doesn’t run itself, so if anyone would like to join us on the committee it would be good, so please get your nomination forms in to any committee member. If you are nominating somebody else please ask them first.

To help us put more river trips on for you guys, we need more trip leaders, so if any suitably qualified/experienced paddlers would like to help out please let us know.

See you on the water - Dave Clarke.

HCC Has Clubmark!!!

After a huge amount of work, HCC is proud to announce we now have the 'Clubmark' accreditation from Sport England. A massive thanks to Hayley Clarke for her hard work on this, as well as the rest of the HCC committee.

Clubmark is the universally acknowledged cross sport accreditation scheme for community sports clubs. Based on four key areas of club development it centres around:

  • Activity/playing programmes - this includes, for example, coaching qualifications required, insurance and coach to participant ratios
  • Duty of care and welfare - appropriate risk assessments, health and safety policies, training, compliance and child protection policies
  • Knowing your club and its community - this ensures that your club is committed to fairness and equity in respect of the way in seeks to attract and retain members from your local community
  • Club management - which covers issues to do with club and committee structures and the general running of the organisation.
