Chairman's Statement. |
Welcome to the October newsletter
Wow what a busy month yet again, The Avon trip was well supported with lots of newer paddlers on it, there is a great trip report on the website (along with plenty more), Lots of paddlers had a fun afternoon at the Nene white water centre where a lot of fun, training and swimming was had. It was good to see so many of you at the Leam demo day/jumble sale.
During the month there has been lots of courses going on, including 3 weekends of 4 star W/W training (see details below), a 2 day first aid course, a 1 day one star course and a 2 day two star course. A big well done to all of you that passed.
These are a few things to look forward to and get in your diary. Upper dart and Dart loop. W/W trip to North Wales. 3 star canoe assessment. Night paddle on the Ashby canal. Flat water trip, possibly Avon or Derwent. We also have a quiz night, a social get together and the Christmas meal, all at Stanton lakes. As you all know pool sessions are starting very soon and Hayley is taking booking for this block os sessions and also the block after Christmas.
The details for all the above events are on the website.
See you on the water. Dave Clarke.

4 Star Training
The 4 star qualification is a personal skills and leadership award, it can be done in many different disciplines of paddle-sport. The journey to 4 star involves a 2 day official training course, after your course you have up to 3 years (can be done a lot quicker) to gain your pre requisites, log your hours/trips leading and assisting, and getting your personal skills up to standard. When you think you are ready you then go on a 2 day assessment.
Fourteen members and 4 guests have recently done there W/W kayak training (over 3 separate weekend courses). This was done in North Wales on the Tryweryn at Bala and the Dee in Langollen. Over the weekend they learnt and practised river running skills, leadership and group management techniques, and found out where they need to be with there personal skills. So a big well done to all you guys.
Next year there is another 16hr first aid course and a couple of 2 day white water safety and rescue courses arranged. Both of these are pre requisites,so will hopefully help you work towards the assessment. If you want to arrange and lead any trips? that would be great. Just ask a club trip leader to come along with you and advertise it on the website and facebook.
