HCC are proud to announce that today we received British Canoeing Club Mark Status and also their Quality Mark.

This is a great achievement as the process for accreditation has changed significantly and we are one of the first clubs in the region to go through this and with flying colours.

British Canoeing said of us:

“The club’s website is current, modern and inviting. It’s layout is great and is a fantastic example for other clubs as to how to get all the information across in a simple yet effective way.”

“The coaches and committee are passionate about what they are doing, provide development opportunities for all levels of paddlers and host many events and trips to keep members entertained.”

“Hinckley really is a great example of what a quality marked club should be and I am happy to award them their Clubmark status.”

Well done to every one involved, this is something to really be proud of.

Cheers

This relates to advertised tour dates of 19th and 20th March 2016.
Due to commencement of Fish Pass construction works at the second weir –Marston weir, we have reluctantly taken decision to cancel tour.
During works, there is no practical portage or ability to inspect weir at close quarters from river bank. Access and egress are also compromised at this location. This has changed risk assessment of tour. In event of raised river levels on planned weekend, the above could be brought into sharper focus!
This decision was reached reluctantly, but safety and due care of paddlers was paramount in forming ultimate cancellation.
Thank you for taking time to read this post and we hope to be back in action next year.
Please pass on this message to anyone you may be aware, who were planning to attend the planned weekend.
Kind regards

HCC Open Day

As many of you will know, via the Facebook post, we have decided to cancel the HCC open day this year.

There are a couple of reasons that led us to this not easy decision and we’d like to try and outline the committee’s view.

Firstly the club is really strong at the moment with record membership numbers and lots on the calender every month, if we were to get a big influx of new members from the open day we just could not cope with the extra numbers on a thursday night session, some of last years sessions were a bit of a challenge to get enough coaches and kit on the water. We do have expansion plans for the site, kit and coached but that’ll take time to get in place to enable us to support larger groups during the summer.

Secondly this event is a very big thing to organise with months of prior planning and organising. We have not been successful this year in getting third parties (kit suppliers, open water swimming, etc..) involved to make this day such a good event and don’t want to put something on that does not stand up to the success of previous years.

Also we recognise that the open day in the past has been a great day for members to bring their family along to see what we get up to and have a chance to go in some boats etc and so to try not to loose this fun opportunity we will be putting on a members fund day in the summer.

We are still actively trying to grow the club, by training new coaches and trip leaders and encouraging more members, but want to grow in a way that is sustainable and does not outstretch out ability to put on enjoyable and safe sessions.

Rest assured it’ll be back in the future.

HCC Committee
