Awaiting communication from BC re club membership.

Finance

The river Dart trip Bunkhouse fee has been paid.

Bank total: £8431.06 there is nothing to pay in but there are some cheques to come out

PM is owed £428.80 for items purchased.

Fraser Watson’s level 2 MWW Coach assessment has been paid.

Equipment

The following items have been purchased:

2 second hand dynamos

5 new locks for the containers and canoe locks

10 keys.

New lock box for the end container which will be fitted by NS & PM.

If fitting the new lock box is successful it may be decided to do the same with the other containers.

It had been agreed to investigate replacing the painters on the canoes. There are 26 painters for 13 canoes.  PM reported it would have been £110 to replace the painters, so it had been agreed to buy 100 m floating line which worked out to be around half the price.  It had been previously suggested buying some carabiners in order to be able to unclip the painters and hang them up.  Dave Clarke had advised that the lines could be looped on in such a way that they could easily be taken off and stored.  It was therefore decided that carabiners were not required.

Open Actions: PM to

Purchase one SUP Paddle before next season.

Look at the play boats & polo boats to sell off.

PM referred to the wooden building that was circulated advising that the price was basic and did not include the floor, doors & windows.  It was thought the cost and size was a feasible proposal even allowing an extra £1.5K for what was not included.  It was agreed to proceed in talking to Mick & Helen about this in the development meeting.
As well as above it was agreed to discuss extra decking and steps

Paul will look at setting up a work party to do maintenance sooner rather than later.

Action: P Riley & H Clarke

PM Looking to have some buoys to set up for training purposes.  KS advised that she had seen some set up using tennis balls and rope.  There was concern with this idea with the potential of snagging if there was a swimmer.  PM noted that the roofs of the containers may need looking at.

The canoe foam blocks will be brought in & the SUPs will be partially deflated.

It was noted that the rent for the lake is due at the beginning of the year

Events

Well done to Fraser & KS for passing their courses this past weekend and well done also to PM, MS & NS on completion of their level 2 core module.

31st October Halloween Paddle

The touring trip on Sun 7th Oct has been taken over by Richard Matthews

Ongoing discussions are taking place regarding organising a trip to the Alps in 2019.

It was felt that if questions are asked on one of the Facebook pages that someone should be nominated to answer questions relating to trips and numbers.  It was felt that the two who are best placed to answer in this instance is DC or NA.

It was noted that the River Dart trip appears to be now sorted.  Unfortunately, both DC & NA were not able to attend the meeting so it was difficult to discuss in any detail.

It was stated that any Non-members on a club trip need to fill in a temporary membership form.  Ratios to be sorted based on the conditions and experience of paddlers. Ultimately the ratios & ensuring the correct paperwork is completed on the day are the responsibility of the attending trip leaders.

Club Development

None to report.  Haley has booked a number of places at the British Canoeing Roadshow at HPP to see a presentation on the new Paddlesport Awards on Nov 13th at 7pm.

Discipline specific award for the level 2.  Action: Please could Hayley make enquiries with the same course takers as the core module for cost and possible dates in March 2019.  Also suggest whether other levels 2 to join in or observe.

MS, PM & NS noted how different the coaching philosophy is compared to what they had been used to or had seen from other coaches at that level.

KS also advised on some of the differences to the new Paddlesport Instructor Courses that will take place next year plus had heard the Paddlepower awards will be dropped due to minimum age changes to the new awards.
